Uncover the basics behind two essential practices in yoga — Pranayama and Asana practice.
For the first 30 minutes of class, you will learn simple breathing exercises. The focus on breath will deepen your sensory experiences of the essential inhalation and exhalation. In time, you will be taught additional breath work techniques that will introduce you to traditional Pranayama.
The remaining time in class will be spent developing an Asana practice using the Ashtanga Vinyasa yoga method. Following a set series of poses that build upon the strength and flexibility of the prior pose, the beginner will be guided in a step-by-step fashion while the more seasoned practitioner does the practice on their own with adjustments from the teacher when necessary. This method of teaching enables the student to eventually enjoy an Asana practice on their own.
Beginning the class with the foundation of breath creates a solid framework that shapes the Asana practice with each inhale and exhale connecting pose after pose.
